Welcome to the 2017 World Championship Splash Blue and the Euro Cup Splash Red.
From July 22 to July 28, Lelystad - in the centre of The Netherlands - will be the place where sailors can compete in the Splash Blue and Splash Red dinghy. Their goal: becoming the new World Champion Spalsh Blue or becoming the new European Champion Splash Red. The races will be held on the Markermeer, with the beautiful replica of the 17th century Batavia Merchant Ship on the background.
The Splash is a ‘singlehanded’ dinghy for sailors between 15 and 21 yrs/old, designed exactly 30 years ago in Friesland, the northernmost province of The Netherlands. Up until this very day, the Splash is being produced in Friesland and the dinghies found their way all over the world. The ‘Blue’ boats have the standard-sized sail (blue logo) The ‘Reds’ have the modernised oversized sail with the red logo. The Organisation Committee hopes to welcome sailors from all over the world!
The Championship is open to ALL sailors! No need to qualify and there’s no pre-ranking system. Just join, sail and try to become the next World Champion (or European Champion when you choose the ‘Red’). For parents and spectators in general, the venue will be easy to follow on large screens on shore. Apart from the large spectator screens, there will be lots of activities near Bataviahaven. The City of Lelystad and the Province Flevoland fully support and endorse this Championship.
